Notes on Talk

Does anyone remember Taboo?  The game of unSPEAKable FUN!  Like charades, but using your "big kid words" minus one choice word your teammates had to guess based on your thesaurus of clues.  My parents pulled it out during parties we weren't invited to, then my brother would cabbage onto the buzzer, annoying me for days to follow.

In America, we play Taboo all the time, with or without invitation, but it has a cute new tagline called CANCEL Culture.  Ouch!

My favorite recent example is Kanye losing his Adidas contract.  Kanye, America's favorite asshole, kept running his mouth about another group of people - historically enslaved, tortured, and disadvantaged due to their cultural and religious heritage - got himself CANCELED by Adidas.  Almost overnight, Adidas became the banner-child for anti-fascism.  OH, but don't say THAT!  After the ruthless televised murder of George Floyd by a UNIFORMED OFFICER, The Media has The American Public so very confused about anti-fascism, we've forgotten our Latin roots.  Anti- means AGAINST.  Per Wiki *easily accessible to MOST* "Fascism" is FAR-right/dictatorial/suppression of opposition/subordination of individual interests for the PERCEIVED good.  Remember the Fascists, those assholes who enslaved, tortured, and murdered millions during the not-so-long-ago Holocaust?

I'm proudly wearing my Adidas.

About Perceptions.  With investigative journalism miserably FAILING to uphold our First Amendment rights due to politico-corporate interference and general lack of interest (see $$$), we are veering towards Fascism even with this bi-partisan teeter-totter in place.  When Kanye, one of the most influential musicians in America, publicly loses money for being a racist asshole, that's accountability.  But CANCEL Culture has inherent danger when we stop at a diagnosis and trolley along without asking questions.

The beautiful thing about America is the variety of choices, and where we spend our money, our time, and our words counts. We must get to the root cause of the illness - keep the conversation going.  Racism and murder are bad, mmkay? Anyone with a pulse and a conscience knows that. But if discussion ends at one bad word, we never progress beyond bias (another’s or our own) to find a cure. Does it really matter if he had a criminal record?  IF he was under the influence??  Watching an ARMED, UNIFORMED OFFICER MURDER an UNARMED CITIZEN should TERRIFY EVERYONE in America.  Instead, The Media has us bickering over anti-fascism while the kids are so stinking scared they want to cancel all the cops on account of some Rotten Eggs. Does Satan get the last laugh? I certainly hope not!

It’s been said talk is cheap. But in America’s current state, if you put your money (and behaviors) where your mouth is, it’s almost better than a vote.
